The continued increase in scale and spread of cybersecurity attacks up to new forms of threats, malware/ransomware, growth in vulnerabilities disclosed, a push to digitalization due to the COVID-19 crisis and the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine are all factors in the increase of cyber-related risks in the European region since 2019. The network infrastructure security directive (NIS) has been updated to further improve the level of cyber resilience for key sectors across the Union.
The new regulation requires entities in scope to establish a governance for risk management and a wide set of cybersecurity measures, address supply chain risks and report incidents and threats with potential service disruption that would have or have an impact on public safety, security, health or economic impact.
