Panel Discussion: Ransomware for Critical Infrastructure Industries

The economic impacts of ransomware attacks starting with the initial disruption and continuing with extended recovery, have proven challenging to the small business and to the large enterprise. Ransomware attacks in 2021 increased significantly compared to the previous year, with ransomware payments to recover data and/or to regain control doubling. Ransomware attacks against our critical infrastructure have gone up, from attacks on our gas pipelines, to multiple food distribution channels, to water treatment facilities and more. Attacks on critical infrastructure present a clear and present danger to society and our nation as a whole. Research findings shows that multiple ransomware attacks are happening every hour, to the point that the DOJ has elevated ransomware attacks to a similar level as terrorism.
